In April 2018 we were asked to pitch to SAGA Cruises. SAGA Cruises were building a new ship ‘Spirit of Discovery’, and required uniform for its crew of 500. This included officers, galley staff, restaurants, bars, entertainment, housekeeping and hospitality.

As this was such a diverse undertaking, we invited SAGA to our showroom, here in Christchurch, to see our range of uniform and to explain even the extensive choice we have on display was not exhaustive, and we could pretty much offer or make bespoke whatever they wanted, and we did.
The ties and waistcoats for the bars are not off the peg, neither is the housekeeping uniform, to name but a few selected bespoke garments. We followed SAGA’s guide lines and took inspiration from the design of the restaurants, and the vessel as a whole, which provided a great base to start and between us, came up with some workable & functional ideas. We held a showcase so SAGA could see how the garments performed and moved, and how they looked within their surroundings. We now have final sign off ready for the ship launch in July 2019.
Before the launch we will be responsible for creating man-packs for all 500 crew and with our team, will manage the despatch and hand out process, on-site, in Germany. Every aspect of PPE from latex gloves to harness has been delivered already.
SAGA chose Taylor Made Designs not only for our attention to detail, but for our ability to manage their uniform, saving them the time and trouble of this intense, logistical task going forward. We are very much looking forward to the future with them.
